"The Wall" -- An Artist's Plea for Peace in the Middle
East
The Fellowship of Reconciliation has made a poster available,
The Wall - an Artist's Plea for Peace in the Middle East. It
is colorful and poignant, picturing people of all sorts
inscribing words of peace and hope on the Separation Wall.
The poster is a powerful statement against the Israeli
Separation Wall. It calls for a peaceful, nonviolent
resolution to the Mideast conflict. The painting, by
Cincinnati artist, Mary Ann Lederer, expresses belief in the
unfailing goodness of all people and of the need to wage
peace, even in the midst of conflict, in order to make
reconciliation possible. Lederer painted "The Wall" to
focus
attention on the inspiring work of Palestinian and Israeli
peacemakers and the hopes of children on both sides of the
Separation Wall. Her image also dramatizes the goals of the
UN Decade for a Culture of Peace and Nonviolence, which runs
through 2010.
The artist knows first-hand about violence, suffering and the
need for personal reconciliation. Since 1976, when an
intruder shot her twice in the back, she has been paralyzed
from the waist down. She uses a wheelchair for all activity,
including painting.

The painting is available exclusively through FOR as a
