Title: lerner/chasan
These views concerning Rabbi Michael Lerner (Tikkun) characterize well what I feel about Rabbi Chasan -- which I've had trouble putting into words.  The quote, of course, is from Lerner, not Chasan, but I have heard Josh say many similar things about the problem on "both sides".

I don't know if others share Sal's take on either of them.

I would certainly not count Lerner as progressive in the least. He
represents that wing of so-called "progressives" (who can be found in
abundance in the Democratic party, as well as among Greens and
throughout the antiwar movement) whose progressivism screeches to a
grinding halt where Israel/Palestine is concerned.

For example, among his myriad incredible statements on the issue
includes this nugget on the Palestinians:

"Their insensitivity to the Jewish People and our needs helped create
a dynamic in which Jews actually became what the Palestinians had
feared: a group that would cause the Palestinians to become refugees".

So, the good rabbi would have us believe that the Palestinians were
insensitive to the "needs" of the Jewish people, as if the situation
in pre-1948 Palestine was some kind of misbehavior in a group therapy
session and not a colonizing experience where the indigenous people
were being slowly pushed off of their lands by alien settlers!
No doubt Lerner will next have us believe that Native Americans were
insensitive to the settlers and cavalry, the Sudanese were
insensitive to Gordon and the Zulu were insensitive to the Boers.
Blame the victim indeed.
