An important speaker, John Esposito, who is the founder of Georgetown University's Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding, will be speaking on the UVM campus next Wednesday, November 10, at 5:30 P.M.
Please note: Billings North Lounge does not seat too many people (capacity: ca. 100). Since this presentation is part of the President's Distinguished Lecture Series, it's probably a good idea to arrive early if you want a seat.
Parking on campus for guests is restricted to visitor parking lots until after 6 P.M. One visitors' lot is located on College Street across from the Waterman Building. Another is up by the water tower (behind the hospital).

Renowned scholar of Islam in the contemporary world and author of numerous books on Islam, including _Unholy War: Terror in the Name of Islam_, _The Islamic Threat: Myth or Reality?_, and _Voices of Resurgent Islam_, Dr. Esposito is a scholar who seeks to explore the complex issues at the heart of contemporary conflicts inside the Islamic world and between the Islamic world and the West. Dr. Esposito challenges common assumptions about irreconcilable differences between Islam and the West, and he effectively attacks simplistic normative assumptions about Islam and Muslims at this critical time in American history.
