VXQuery poddling becoming a pTLP Dear Board,
I'd like to request the VXQuery Incubator podling become a probationary TLP. VXQuery has been incubating for over 4 years now, its struggled in the past but now has a core group of active committers trying to make a go of it, but they are struggling with the Incubator. Back in April they tried to do a release but that failed to get enough binding Incubator PMC votes so never got out. In August they were told the podling would be retired if they didn't get a release done, they made another release and it to now after a month is not getting enough binding Incubator votes to release. Doing releases is important to make a successful project so I feel the Incubator is letting the podling down and its time to try something else. I know the pTLP concept is not clearly defined yet, this VXQuery pTLP trial could help flesh that definition out. The way i thought this could work would be we submit a resolution for the next board meeting, all the existing VXQuery committers become part of the new PMC, I volunteer to be the chair, and the board nominate one or more other board or ASF members to be on the PMC to help provide some oversight. VXQuery could then get on with making releases etc without the Incubator barriers. We'd evaluate how things go in each board report, and at some point in the future decide on becoming a fully fledged PMC or something else. What do you say? ...ant
