If you buy used you can get Quad port Intel cards for very cheap (sub-
$50) I actually got 5 of them for free. Find somewhere that resells
used servers and they will probably have boxes of ethernet cards that
no one buys that you can get dirt cheap. That's how I get all mine.
I'm also seeing the Intel cards on eBay for around $100.

Does it have to be a quad port card? You can probably get 2 dual-port
cards, or maybe even 4 single port cards for cheap as well, and not
have to worry about bus sharing issues.
I've found that Intel and Broadcom NICs work well. But, these days,
just about any NIC will work under linux, and vyatta has just about
every network driver compiled in, so you should be safe with almost
anything.

Thanks for your advice.
Not sure, if I am ready to be a besta Tester for Vyatta with new
Hardware, I haven't test vyatta itself yet :-)
So who knows a good card with 4 Ethernet port card which for sure
work fine with Vyatta ?
and precision: not expensive :-) ?
I check the hardware config, the 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet
Interface, PCI-X, 4-port looks good, but $700 is a bit too much for
my small University :-/ and specially for with a PC which worth
just a but more than that :-)
Thanks

Be very careful with quad port cards from Sun ... I've heard
varying accounts of difficulty with drivers and functionality. I
don't have any proof, nor have I worked on Sun quad port NICs, but
just know what you're buying and if anyone has had success with any
Linux distro and that specific card.
Definitely check the vyatta hardware page, but you still may just
want to see if there are Linux drivers for it even if it's not on
the vyatta page - that could just mean no one has tested vyatta
with that brand. If there's Linux drivers for the NIC, then it's
safe bet vyatta should have them and if not you can always download
some and patch it up -- very doubtful you'd ever have to do that
with Linux nowadays (except for feral wifi chipsets!).

Thanks for your quick reply.
In fact, I haven't buy the network card yet,
I didn't want to spend $40 and not be abble to use it :-)
I was wandering if this kind of card (PCI Network card with 4 port)
will work.
what's the link to find the list of supported hw on the wiki ?
I saw on Ebay a Sun card for $20:
Sun 501-4366 X1034A 4-Port 10/100 PCI Ethernet Card
this one may work ?

Welcome,
To start with, use the liveCD on the Dell and see if the card it
detected. As an alternative, check the documentation of supported hw
found on the web, or the Wiki. Finally, update your post with the
exact make and type of card you have. It is hard to say if it will
work without that information.
