I would say yes, with some efforts.
The problem is, if I tag something as <shortdesc> it produces an invalid xml file because the shortdesc is put inside the </conbody> element, not before.
Nevertheless, it's a good start. You need to modify by hand the XSLT stylesheet which generates a DITA topic. I mean, simple style mappings are insufficient for this use case.
Please send me (mailto:huss...@xmlmind.com) what you did (a .zip containing your w2x options file + possibly, its scripts subdirectory) and also a sample DOCX making use of the "Shortdesc" style and I'll try to see if what you want to do is currently feasible.
If it's not, we'll try to enhance W2X to make this possible. (A new version of W2X is planned for next month.)
