What python version are you running(python --version)? The "with" keyword was added in 2.5, if you're running python 2.4 or earlier that would explain your traceback.
Installing all the prerequisites for w3af is somewhat of a pain. If you're just looking to evaluate w3af, I'd encourage you to try it in the samurai livecd. http://samurai.inguardians.com/ If you like what you see, then try to fight the install ;-) For me, the current build is borked(but in a different way that you), but if I do a "svn update -r 2167" in the w3af dir, it works fine. I also cleared out my ~/.w3af dir with "rm -r ~/.w3af". Hope that helps.
