I wish I had that good of luck at Rocky Ford. I fished it on Friday
afternoon. I was mostly going deep with a weighted scud and got some good
tugs but landed nothing. My buddy was fishing with dries (mostly #18 Para.
Adams) and landed a few nice trout up to 16" (not big for RF). I tried a
#18 BWO for a little while but got no takes....did turn a few fishes heads,
though. It was a Friday, and we played hookey, so as the saying goes, "A
bad day fishing beats...."

My guide friend, Ron Romig, asked me to go along with him last Thurs. to
pick up a trailor in the Ephrata area that he had left over there; he guides
goose hunters also and I assumed that's what he was using the trailor for.
He wanted to spend the rest of the day at Rocky Ford. I couldn't justify
taking off work and he left alone. Fantastic fishing was his report. There
weren't many anglers and those that he met on the way out were fishing deep
with little success, but he had a 20 plus fish day on #18 BWO's. Some fish
were coming back 2 and 3 times to take the fly. He gives lots of credit to
floro-carbon tippets. I have begged off that expensive stuff as little
advantage, but he now has made a believer out of me. In flat, slick surface
water it really seems to have an edge. There were some good reports of fish
caught BELOW the TOLT at midweek. Some native fish were caught as well as
some hatcheries. The "feed lot" area below the Carnation Bridge was a
producing area, as well as the drift above the bridge and also at the mouth
of the Tolt. The upper river, above and below Fall City, fished poorly this
weekend. Jere
