Putah Creek is roughly 80 miles North of San Franciso- a tailwater of Lake Berryessa
(off highway 505 near Winters). Good fishing with midges and BWO's for those with
patience. My personal best is a 26" 'Bow that fell to a size 24 Black Thread Midge-
finally the 20/20 club! Even the lake hosts some pretty decent fishing for those
that throw big Zonkers or Shad patterns. Dem biggins surely know how to tow around a
pontoon boat. Start of April signifies water release from the dam and high water.
Too high for bank fisherman. For those that are crazy (like myself), we launch a
pontoon and float the lower part of the creek where a decent Callibaetis hatch happens
precisely at 12-1230 every day. Mix bag of catch in the lower creek. Mostly 'Bows ,
but I have caught Bluegil, Bass and even Catfish on Callibaetis nymphs/emergers.
Should be fun this year!
