Have you tried turning your head and watching your line straighten?
Had the same problem and when I would turn to look it would slow me down
and I could watch the rod load before starting the power
stroke....distance came back.

By the way, Sauk is finally putting out fish in good
numbers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who knows how long it will last.
