Fished from Big Horn to Red's Sat. and Sun. Sat. fished from 1:30 to 8PM and
boy was it windy, we were getting blown off the anchor it was so windy. We
brought a bigger anchor Sunday. We saw some browns but little else cause the
wind seemed to blow them off the water. Caught one 12" bow in slack water
were we finally saw some risers. Sunday was completely different and one of
the days of fishing I've ever had, less wind, more hatches, and my friend
Jeff joined Jomo and myself and he was a big factor in our great day. Jeff
knows the river well and we learned a great deal. Being able to anchor above
the feeding lanes was real important to catching the fish and we did much
better with the chain anchor........
Sunday we got on the water at 11:30 and got off about 6PM. We fished the
edges close to the grass and all our fish were caught not more than 5 ft
from shore. Water was 3600 cfs (summer flow rate) and a little dirty from
Wilson creek. I landed 5 fish and missed twice that many. Jeff must have
landed 15, we lost count, and missed at least that many. Fish of the day a
19 incher with a range from 10n to 16 inches for the rest. Landed one old
fish with a broken jaw and signs of being caught many times. We were very
gentle with this one, he'd been through enough already.......
Browns first then about 1 the caddis came out and were heavy for 3 hrs.
It was just amazing, they were so thick and lasted through hole after hole.
It tapered off after 4 but we still got the odd fish here and there. Saw no
Squawlas (Sp) or salmon flies but the caddis were so good it didn't matter.

Caddis emerger patterns, x caddis, stimulator, elk hair caddis, Jeff got
some on nymphs but it was best on the drys. Caddis emerger patterns, x

As usual the wind was the biggest problem with the water clarity not
seeming to matter much. Didn't check the water temp but the air was
sometimes a little chilly but both days were really beautiful. Did I
mention there was no one on the river. We saw two boats and one or two bank
anglers. We had every hole to ourselves with no one around. What gives? We
figured it must be cause it was Easter........
