It was very windy in the south sound today. I had hoped to give Kopachuck a
try but opted for a little beach I thought was in the lee but found it
wasn't all that protected, but it was still fishable. I faced north with
the wind at my back and worked the beach by tossing a small grizzly popper
parallel to shore. Small cutties and an occasional medium-sizer attacked
the popper all the way up the beach without hooking. At 1pm, two hours
before a .1 low slack, the wind laid down for a half hour just as I had
reached some wide sand flats. I walked and waded in two feet of water
casting the popper ahead of me and began to connect. It was as if someone
had turned on the lunch bell. I caught some nice fat cutties, the best
being a beautifully marked 15-16 incher covered with sea lice. Then the
wind started and I got the hell out of there just before the rain became
horizontal

It felt good to clear out the head in one of our good old sou'westers,
Leland.
