Let me know what works for you as I did the same thing on a trip to Montana last week 
with my brother (guess not enough grease :-).  One method I haven't tried yet is to 
cool as far up on the male (lower) part as possible (ice, etc.) and heat the ferrule 
with a blow dryer or something.
