Hi Keith,
I just returned from one of my many fishing trips back to the old hometown.
Here is what I know:
Aeneas is fishing really well. Big fish and a lot of them. Average size is
about 19 inches. Lake had moderate pressure on the opening weekend.
Blue: The word is out about this lake and it was every bit as crowded as
Chopaka. The water is way down this year and apparently the fishing was only
fair on opening weekend. I didn't even want to deal with the crowds so
bypassed it.
Ell: The other gem on opening weekend. Fish were large and there were lots
of them to go around.
Chopaka: Haven't heard a report yet. A little early yet for Chopaka to be
doing much.
Give it another week or two and then it should start making the news.
Here are a couple of sleeper lakes in the region: Spectacle Lake- Has a lot
of the 3lb+ fish in it that the DFW dumped in before the season opened. Hess
Lk (On the way to Conconully) Lots of big fish in here two. Browns,
rainbows and the occasional Brookie.
A couple I would avoid: Conners and Ford. According the DFW person I talked
with, they are considering pulling the plug on these two ponds to return the
creek to its natural state. As a result, they aren't putting fish or rehab
dollars into either one of them until they decide on the outcome.
I hope this helps.
