with guide Mark Shimazu. We floated from Ringer to 'The Slab' (below Red's and Squaw Cr. which is now named something else)and had a great day! Hooked the first fish straight across from the put in under the scrutiny of a motley looking herd of cows and the last one.... about mid afternoon. PMD's mid day were the main menu item. AM was sunny, warm and the water is actually a bit low for this time of year. High thin clouds mid day, thickening later and although the predicted/anticipated caddis hatch never happened we picked up fish on Elk Hair Caddis and caddis emergers. Visibility was about 2 feet and, fortunately, the wind was only occasionally gusty. Not nearly what it had been the day before when nymph fishing was the only alternative. Two of the fish caught (out of 15-18 total , the largest about 17" plus numerous smolts) were cutthroat. I had only caught cutts in the upper river but there they were.......both around 14". Only two other boats on the river and two bank fisherpersons.
