Several people wanted me to give then another Amber Lake report when I got a
chance to fish it again. Also had a few requests for info on North Silver
Lake. Here ya go.
Amber: I have fished Amber for 10 years now and have never seen it as slow
as it is this year. Simply put, people are just not catching fish. I have
talked to many veterans of the lake and we are all scratching our head as to
what is going on. There are fish there but not in the numbers we are used to
seeing. The ones we see, seem to have lockjaw. There have been two days
when the fishing was okay. Opening weekend and then last Sunday. The rest
of the time it has been quiet. I have only been skunked there 3 times in ten
years. I have been skunked twice in the last two days. Hopefully things get
better once it warms up a bit more.
North Silver Lake (Spokane County): Since I was getting skunked at Amber I
decided to take a trip to our newest FFing only lake. I didn't know what to
expect since they aren't planning on rehabbing it until this Fall but I must
say I was pleasently surprised.
I tied on my old standby wooly bugger and within ten minutes had a 22 incher
to the net. A few minutes later, I had a planter to the net. He had a bad
run in with an Osprey and had talon marks down both sides. It got quiet for
a bit and then I finished off my two hour outing with another 22+ incher. I
saw a couple gentlemen bring some 24+ inch fish to the net. They are all
broodstock for the most part but they have been in there long enough to put
up a good fight. They definetly made getting skunked at Amber a lot less
painful.
