Ok this may not be the best place to ask this but I thought I would throw
it out. They are saying a half a million sockeye this year in Lake
Washington. That is unbelievable. They say the escapement is 350,000 fish
that blows my mind. If we had 350,000 steelhead returning to the Sky or the
skagit you would have fish everywhere and there would be no thought of
closing it. Heck if I remember right a two years ago they had 35-50
thousand fish and kept it closed. 35,000 steelhead in one system and you
are talking world class (maybe the best in the world). Why are the
escapement numbers so high for Sockeye? Don't get me wrong I am think
escapement should be managed for Maximum sustained Yield not Maximum
sustained Harvest I am just trying to get a handle on the biology question.

Thanks

JJ
