Interesting report on Hihium, Tunkwa and Pasca lakes.
I'm planning to be in the Kamloops area fishing for
several days during the week of August 7 thru 13.
I've never fished there at this time of year so would
like some suggestions. I've fished Hihiume, Bonaparte,
Hammer, Lac de Roches, Sheridan and?? but it was
always early. Per the report about Hihium, Tunkwa,
Pasca, it looks like the "summr doldrums" have set in
on the lower-elevation lakes.
I have a little mini-motorhome: 20' on a Nissan pickup
frame with four cyl engine and 5-speed tranny (don't
laugh..it made it to Mazatlan, Mexico last winter and
home back across the Rockies coming from Kansas!!)
which doesn't have great ground clearance nor a lot of
power for pulling steep grades (it did make it up the
"Famous Chopaka Grade" but,if I had stopped, I don't
believe I could have gotten started on up the grade
again).
Question: is it possible for me to drive it into
Hihium? Is there still a Provincial campground (or
two) on the lake (without any amenities) where I could
camp as I am self-contained? Its been a long time and
I was brought into the lake by truck by Pat
Kirkpatrick (Circle W? ranch) in a truck over their
private road.
Is Roche lake a good destination at this time? What
about Dragon Lake farther north?
Where is Pasca Lake? I don't remember seeing it on a
map. Report said it was by Merritt.
I will have an inflatable boat as well as float tube.
Any suggestions about destinations, flies, unimproved
campgrounds, RV campgrounds with hookups (my wife is
going along and we might like that), "secret lakes"
you would entrust to all of us!!,etc.
This is a long query but it is much more important
than a "matter of life or death"; it concerns
fishing!!
Any help would be appreciated.
John
