Fished upper Nason Creek Saturday afternoon. Many small cutts, eagerly rising to our little elk hair caddis, in most of the riffles and runs. The biggest fish running about 8-9", but all scrappy and spirited. The stream is small and generally narrow and brushy in this area, but we were able to find open areas along the way that allowed room for casting and provided fairly easy wading. Access was fair, with pull-offs along the way from the westbound lanes of Hwy 2 as well as the occasional frontage road or forest service road crossing the creek. It was encouraging to see this aspect of Nason Creek. My only previous experience - several years ago and several miles further downstream - had left me disappointed and fearful that this beautiful little mountain stream was becoming sterile and perhaps on the verge of being destroyed by neglect and abuse. It was great to see there's still some life left in this classic mountain creek, at least in the upper reaches. -Wes Wes Neuenschwander Seattle, WA [EMAIL PROTECTED]
