Passing through the local wannabe flyshop (disguised as a hardware store in
town) I was able to look at the Okuma Sierra reels. If I was staying
in that price range I'd pay the extra $9 and get the Pflueger
Supreme. The finish, drag and the gear mechanism *seemed* of better
quality. Prices were $38 and $47 respectively. Any thoughts on
comparison to the Supreme?

Tim,
In my opinion the Plueger Supreme cannot compete with the Okuma Sierra. The
Okuma is a much better reel for less money. Now I will admit that this
opinion is based off of the first incarnation of the Pflueger Supreme. I
bought one and it is absolutely worthless. I use it for a paper weight. I
know Pflueger has since redone it and I haven't looked at the new model.
Maybe they have improved it but I have put the Okuma through the paces in
hard fishing conditions with big fish and it hasn't failed me.
