Thanks a bunch for all the good info on the Phluger
1595 1/2...pro and con.  The lack of an effective
drag doesn't bother me just so long as the one on the 
reel isn't so cheesy it fails and takes the reel with it. 
You have all answered that question.  The 1595 1/2 is 
stout and reliable.  

Sounds like a perfect back up reel (at least).  I guess
I'll run down and get one and a couple of spools for this 
trip and see how I like it.  One of these days I'm going to
get a spey rod for the Deschutes and I'll need to rethink the
whole reel thing then.

I,ve had two STH reels go gunney bag on me.  One on a trip to 
Henry's Lake.  I bought Ross to replace it in West Yellow-
stone.  West Yellowstone isn't the place to buy a reel:>)
The other was on my 8 wt and failed at the beginning of
a two week trip to the Deschutes.  They never fail when
you are fishing the mud flats for carp!  STH has a good 
idea with the cassettes but it seems like their quality
needs some work.
