A about a month ago I asked the list for information
regarding the Phluger 1595 1/2. Based on what everyone
said I went out and bought two! Hey at $35 a shot why
not. I had to file the front foot down a bit to fit the
real seat on my rod, but after loading up my lines
I was good for go. Now the report.

We spent most of last week on the Deschutes (Oregon).
I fished steelhead mornings and trout afternoons and
evenings. I turned three steelhead and the third one
really laid a whupping on me. On his second run he
took me all the way to the backing. After I got about
2/3 of it back, he spit the fly out and that was the end
of that story. Except that I get to smile about the whupping
he gave me all winter.

This was a heavy and active fish. The Phluger did exactly
what I would want it to.....that is I didn't have to think
about the reel once the whole time I had the fish on. It's
hell for stout and performed fine.

The Deschutes is probably a bit slow for this time of the
year. The ODF&W guy checking fish out on the access road
to Macs Canyon hac checked out 3 keepers and 8 wild fish
that were released on Tuesday. He thought that was about
half of what he checked out on a good day. He also said that
they were counting 60 to 70 fish a day over ladder at Sherars
Falls.

A party of three in the campground fished for two days with
a guide and were skunked right up to the last minute. Worse
than skunked, I don't think they had even had a tug. The
evening of the second day, one fellow finally caught one.
Before they connected they were pretty glum. That's pretty
slow for the Deshutes. But the fish are there and more on
the way.
