I just returned from a few days in Neah Bay/Sekiu. On wednesday I fished
Neah Bay on my friends 23' Bayliner. The water was extremely rough off
Duncan Rock, but I had three wild coho between five and seven pounds hooked
and landed on the grizzley popper, a few other big fish follows and misses,
plus a lot of shakers on and off. In the rough water, I was able to get a
clear view of some of the big fish in the peaks of the following swells as
they chased down my fly. We headed down to Sekiu to dock the boat for the
night.

On friday, the seas were a lot calmer and we worked our way back up to
Neah. Our day was cut short by the need to tow in a boat whose motor had
stopped. But before we had to quit, I was hooking more 5-8 pound coho on
the surface with my poppers. I believe that I have finally worked out the
mechanics and techniques where I can cast and catch Neah Bay coho on the
surface with regularity.

Leland.
