I was up on the Yak last Friday and was very dissapointed in what I found.
I waded 3 spots on the upper streches--Cle Elum and above and saw nothing
but large returning salmon. They were everywhere--most of them still
scootin' around and only a few carcases. No trout to be seen, I worked all
of my favorite holes pretty hard and fast and they all were plugged with
salmon. I saw a post a few weeks where this 'act of nature' was mentioned
and saw it first hand this time around. I did not get as much as a sight of
a trout. To top off a frustrating day my 6w mysteriously broke at the tip
right when a nice hatch of what looked like duns were coming out. Overall,
a lame day on the river for this trout fisherman. Would there be less
salmon further down at Bristol? Is it even worth the try for trout as long
as there are salmon in the river? How long will they be there?
