Had a fantastic weekend at Chopaka with many 19" and 20" rainbows
aggressively taking black strip leeches in the weeds. The triploids are big,
fat, and bright.A noticeable difference between them and the typical
cuttbows that have inhabited the lake for years. I caught one fish at almost
21" with a girthy snow white belly and stout physique that stood out from
all others. If this was a triploid fish it could be five pounds next year
easily if not larger. It would be great to have a chance at a 5-7 Lb. fish
in the next couple of years up there if this program of genetic mutants
continue.
There were few hunters and great weather for the final trip this year and am
thankful we still have places like this in Washington. Only six campsites
were occupied three groups of hunters, and three groups of fisherman. The
hunters were all over on Saturday on their quads zipping up and down the
road, I thought to my self, those poor deer don't have a chance, but the
funniest and most memorable moment was when we were sitting around the
campfire
Saturday night and my friend Ken heard a noise behind us, he turned and
flashed his flashlight on eight deer (one two point and seven doe) on the
road behind our trucks in the campground not more than twenty feet away.
These deer must have known that one cannot discharge a fire arm in the
campground and decided to hang out with the fishermen. I had never been that
close to any deer let alone a heard of them. It made the fishing experience
that much better.
Now its time for the Chums. Tight lines every one.
