Wednesday morning I caught and released my largest resident trout ever
during over forty years of fly fishing the central Puget Sound area lakes-
and of all places, from Pine Lake , on the crowded Sammamish Plateau. The
bright rainbow was a bit over 24 inches long and broad shouldered. It put up
a scrappy battle with several long, scorching runs. I was using an
intermediate line, long 5x leader, and a #12 olive bugger. Apparently, the
WDFW put a few broodstock in the lake earlier this fall, but this fish was
certainly not sluggish, so I'm thinking it might have been a carryover.
Anyway, it was a blast to catch and it was my only trout that morning.
