Hi guys,
I have tried some early opener fishing ( first weekend in March, Brrrr) at
Quail for the last three years and have had mixed results from great fishing
to almost nothing at all. Mainly Browns is all I've Caught, but there have
been a couple of big monsters. The lake was rehabbed three years ago and it
should be real good this year. Interesting how some of these eastern lakes
cycle from good to bad and then back to good over time. Quail has very
little pressure early on and I don't know about the rest of the year, but it
is a little bit of a hike so I imagine that the crowds stay away. Nunnally
and Lenice should be great too for some early fishing after last years
rehab, there are some fish on steroids in these lakes and will not have to
compete with any scrap fish for food, so think big.
I will be at Lenice March 2,3, and 4th, if anyone from the list sees a blue
fish cat pontoon boat with a guy wearing a cowboy hat say "Hi" and I'll
offer you a hot cup of joe.
Perhaps we list members should get together and have a fly tying session
before spring to fill those empty spaces in our boxes? I would be happy to
host a get together for up to five people( space is limited) if anyone is
interested, I'll supply some good stories and pizza. Let me know...
Tight lines,
Patrick
