Wes or Dave,

Is the archive down?

It says it was last updated on 11/21/2000.

Subject: Waflyfishers Archives

I'm pleased to announce that - due to the diligent efforts of long-time listmember Dave Miller - the Waflyfishers archives are finally back up and available online at:

http://www.eskimo.com/~wesn/waflyfishers/index.html

Dave was one of the original members of this list and the person responbible for setting up the archives in the first place. Dave is also one of those members who has, in the meantime, become relatively deskbound; obligations of work and family taking precedence over the pleasures of flyfishing. In spite of this Dave took the time to dig into the perplexing problem that had crashed the archives and, succeeding where others (including my ISP) had failed, restored them. Many thanks to Dave!

The archives date back to 1997 and can currently be viewed either by message thread (default), date or author. Regardless of the viewing mode, the message headers are displayed one screen (of about 15 -20 headers) at a time. Select [Prev Page] and [Next Page] at the top of each screen to scroll back or forward through the archives (there are currently 31 pages of message headers). To view a message, just click on the underlined message subject line. Bracketed commands (eg. [Date Prev] ) at the top of each message screen allow you to scroll, message by message, through the entire archive.

Unfortunately, there still is no way to search or filter the archives to display only messages on certain subjects, within a given date range, etc. I'm still exploring ways of doing this, but it may be a while before we accomplish this, particularly since my ISP has lost the staff most familiar with these issues.

In the meantime, please enjoy the archives as they are! We'll keep you posted on any progress we make in upgrading the features and making the message database more useful and enjoyable.

-Wes
