You shouldn't be too early. The last week of Mar. and first week of Apr.
are prime time for the Snohomish system, but it varies with different
watersheds somewhat. 50 degrees is a key water temp. You might contact the
Wildlife Dept. out in Millcreek and find out if they have been doing
spawning checks where you would like to observe. They flyover and then have
personel walk small streams also. They mark the spawn areas with spray
painted rock, green or sometimes red on the shore, next to the redds. I
knew one of the guys that walked the streams, Tom Cox. Tom was a nice young
guy and this was his love of work, ID'ing these spawn areas. Tom also gave
me the tip to fish the Clark Fork 6-8 yrs ago, and I've been back ever
since. On the Snoqualmie, the "Buffalo Hole" area is a prime spot, the
tailout just above the narrow shoot that heads on down by the gravel bar.
You can park at Carlson Farms, the dog training, kennel spot on the Neil Rd.
below Fall City. Cross the bridge at Fall City and turn left like your
going to Carnation and then take the first left just 100 yrds or so after
the left turn at the bridge. Carlson's is about a mile down that rd on the
rt. There is a pull off parking area on the left just before you get to
Carlson's. Walk the rd 20 yds or so, and turn in the gated area and down to
the blackberry, rip rap high bank. You can spot well about 11 in the
morning when the suns right, and then also walk ahead and down onto the
gravel bar. Apr.1 is a good, general time frame. You might see an agent
down there spraying rocks, hopefully they're still spawning there. The Mill
Creek phone number is 775-1311 I'm not sure what the area code is out there
north, probably still 425 Another area that you can observe is the tailout
below the Carnation Farms Bridge. There is plenty of parking and walk down
area, just weeds. Jere
