Just returned to Idaho Falls after a 2 wk stint in Fall City conducting fly
fishing schools. Nice to meet old friends, but great to get back. 15 hrs.,
straight drive through Missoula and down. UHaul behind us ran into a
blizzard hatch of something, described as #10-12 about 2 PM just outside
Idaho Falls...? said they were black....not sure...Skwala's?
Anyway, fished one day on the Yak, Wed., Apr. 25 and the water had come up
some, was murky and we caught zip in the canyon. Day was nice with little
wind, but nothing coming up and we stuck to dries...thought my new,
rubberlegs would excite something, but nada. A fishing buddy, next day, had
a very productive fish outting on the Middle Fork of the Snoqualmie. There
was a good hatch of March Browns and he said he must have caught 20 without
taking a step! And nice size fish. None of the fish, he said, were small;
most 12", or slightly larger...nice for the Snoqualmie. I told him there
was massive hatch of Grannam's (Mother's Day Caddis) under the Fall City
Bridge during my class, good experience for new enductees. Small steelhead
smolts were chasing them. We're going to be short on water, here in Idaho,
and they are now releasing and farmers are selling their rights, to coastal
states, I believe.....next war to be fought over water!
