This is a great resource, and one that most fly fishers wouldn't likely
stumble on, since it's really not about fly fishing at all, but rather just
recreational beach hiking in general. Manning's guide is very comprehensive
and covers a very wide area. It will get you onto a lot of beaches you'd
likely not have found otherwise. One proviso: The Mannings are crusty,
self-proclaimed "Crusaders" in establishing public access to beaches that
some may see as private. Be courteous when fishing any Puget Sound beach
and be respectful of private landowners interests regardless of the
technical legalities. Many private landowners will be happy to allow you on
"their" beach, once they realize that you're a courteous and considerate fly
angler, not some yayhoo, interested in poaching their shellfish, vandalizing
their property or leaving piles of litter and beer bottles behind.

Incidentally, mention of this great resource makes me reflect on how much I
miss the Swallows Nest and its unique fly shop. The Swallows Nest always
distinguished itself by reaching beyond the mainstream, to find new products
and new ideas. I don't know what other fly shop would have been as likely
to discover, and share, a book like "Walks & Hikes on the Beaches Around
Puget Sound". They had a great staff and always had great ideas on where
and how to fish, and I really miss them.
