While climbing Mt. Daniel (highest point in King County at 7,986') this
weekend, June 10, I made note of the ice conditions on the following high
lakes that we could either see or that we passed on our route.
Pea Soup Lake (6,100') 99% frozen
Circle Lake (6,074') 99% frozen
Peggy's Pond (5,590') 95% frozen
Tuck Lake (5,268') 95% frozen
Squaw Lake (4,841') 100% free
Deep Lake (4,382') 100% free
Hyas Lakes (3,448') 100% free
It looks like most lakes at or under 5,000' should be free now, except maybe
on the Westside where there is typically a little more snow at the higher
elevations.
I think I could have seen a few more lakes if the weather/visibility had
been a little better.
Tight lines!

PS For anyone planning on climbing Mt. Daniel via the Lynch Glacier (our
route this weekend)...Pea Soup Lake is starting to thaw at the edges, making
the approach to the snout of the glacier a little tricky and it will only
get worse in the following weeks.
