Saturday, I had a chance to fish this small lake 50 miles south of
Kalispell, MT(just east of Flathead Lake) with my brother-in-law and his
friend. We arrived at noon and left early in the evening. The weather was
mixed (rain, wind, thunderstorms, and sun) and the temperature was mild. My
brother-in-law thought the fishing was a relatively slow. By my standards
it was a great day!
Between the three of us, we caught 15 cuts. Most in the 14-16" range.
Nymphs worked the best (prince nymphs, pheasant tails and a variation of a
hare's ear). We fished the deeper parts of the lake first with good results
then moved to shallower water as the day progressed.
No significant hatches were occurring. However, the fish were rising
on occasion and we were treated to some real acrobatics by some of the
smaller cuts that were leaping 24" plus.
