Any coho still around are primarily in South Sound. They are probably
switching over pretty rapidly from krill (amphipods, euphausids) to baitfish
(herring, sandlance). This time of year there will be up to three hatches of
sandlance along the beaches, 1-1/2" (use Thorne River Emerger), 2-1/2" (use
standard Popovic-style sand lance, #4-6 hook) and 3-3-1/2" (larger
Popovic-style pattern, Point Williams Sand Lance or similar patterns tied
sparsely of course). Always have a couple of Leland's poppers or a Gurgler
in your box. You probably should have a few krill patterns in your box as
salmon will take them anytime they are present.

> This year will be my first for fly fishing for salmon in the sound. I
am curious as to which patterns work best or are your favorites. I have
seen a number of patterns for catching salmon on the rivers but very few for
saltwater. Any patterns will help.
