" I've given folks flies that I was catching fish with . . . " !!! This
must be an impostor Bill Hamilton, to be catching fish, or else he's been
practicin'. :-)

Sometimes gear works better for coho, sometimes flies win out. It seems to
me that when the gear guys are catchin' 'em and we ain't, it's because the
fish are 'reactive' biting the Buzz Bombs, Point Wilson Darts, et al. When
the fish only seem to be biting those items that are being retrieved a
hundred miles per hour, an option is to cast, sandwich the rod between your
arm and your ribs, and quickly retrieve alternating both hands. A flashy
fly is usually the most productive in these circumstances.

My fishing pal Brian and I visited Point No Point (a place Bill Hamilton
calls Point No Fish, but that moniker only fits his fishing attempts there)
today, and fished from about 7 am through 2 pm. Brian must have caught/had
on 20 little coho today, from 4" to 15". I had several missed
opportunities, and short line released a coho we estimate in the 5-6 pound
range. I'm estimating there were approximately 50 people fishing the beach
at any given time during the day. We saw several nice coho caught, but
there was never a consistent bite.

Richard
