Ken,
A short fight is practically a defining characteristic of the westslope
cutt. I have noticed the same thing at Kelly Creek early in the season when
the water is cool, so I don't think it is sluggishness from lack of oxygen.
Whether big or small...resistance after taking a fly is short-lived...you
will rarely see aerial displays from the westslope variety. Whatever they
lack in fight though, they more than make up with in unbridled enthusiasm
for the dry fly.
