Well, I was definitely starting to lift the rod. Probably had it above 45
degrees. That puts the graphite in compression and I'm not sure that's
it strong suit. With a 13 foot rod, you don't have many options it you
can't beach the fish. I try to let line out as I lift the rod but the fish
doesn't cooperate.......Maybe it would work to drop the rod and run
like hell and chase the fish down.

I guess that fly shops aren't for everyone....different strokes and all
that. But there are definite advantages as far as I am concerned.
I never need to worry about someone trying to sell me a discontinued
fly rod at full price. Instead usually as I walk in I'm apt to be greeted
with something like "Hey, Jim want a hell of a deal on that 4 wt you
been looking for. Why don't you take it out back and cast it?"

Along with free coffee, hours of conversation with good folks. I could
go on but I guess it just works for me.
