The question on shooting heads is an interesting one to me. I tried a shooting head system for the saltwater a number of years ago. Used Amnesia for the running line and then a section of deep water express for the shooting heads. I hated it. I got down faster, which is what I was trying to do for salmon, but it was a bear to cast, and when it was cold the Amnesia cut through my skin even more than when it was warm. That is really nasty line if you are stripping in and then latch on to a decent sized fish. I ahave since picked up an Aerflo interchangeable tip system that I use on an 8 weight rod. I've used it for chums and found it convenient to be able to change the presentation of the fly. Much more convenient than changing spools. With this system I didn't upsize to a 9 and have been able to cast as well as I seem to need. (Which is not to say as good as I would !
like. Practice, practice, practice.)
