I had set up a casting lesson with a local instructor for the benefit of a fishing partner that is new to fly casting. He flaked out and I figured I'd go by myself. I've never been happy with my casting skills. I've always thought that I should be a better caster after 25 years of practice, instead it's been more like 25 years of learning bad habits. After 30 minutes or so with this guy, I was casting 20-30 feet farther, my leader was straightening out better, and I was doing it with less effort. We spent a little over an hour working on my casting. Afterward I felt as though I had made huge improvements in my casting. I can't wait to get out and practice a bit. Casting instruction isn't just for beginners and newbies!   Ray Wallace Willy's Ultimate Rod Assortment post got me thinking about what I'd REALLY like for Christmas.  OK, so the WAFF list isn't Santa Claus, but maybe if I wish really hard, some of these will actually come true! 1. Casting lessons. I'm not bad, but I could certainly be better. Bet I could benefit from a couple hours with a pro.
