Ray - from personal experience, anything short of full waders is going to be 2" short of keeping your crotch dry. Every time I go out thinking that the waves, wind , etc. will let me get away with boots or hip-boots, I try to cast out, or move out, just a little farther. Then, along comes a wave, or a wake that I don't see, and the unprotected areas are soaked. My best advice is to carry full waders. Hike in with what ever footwear and carry the waders, boots and gear. Change into the gear when you get where you want to fish. And fish.

In most instances, I try to wade out beyond the  seaweed and junk to cast - and there is the challenge - how low can you go.

I'm going to Whidbey in the morning to fish Ft. Casey. Anyone want to join up? out with my family for the evening, so leave a note. Bart @6:15 Friday evening.

I have kind of a dumb question. When you guys fish for searuns in the salt
from the beach, are you wearing your waders or hip or over the calf boots?
and getting into the water as deep as you can or are you just ankle deep
most of the time? I realize this would depend on the wave action also, but I
have no idea how far out the searuns travel from shore.

reason I ask is there are a couple of places I would like to fish but
because of the walking distance I don't want to wear/carry my waders to them
if I don't have to. Would prefer to just wear over the calf boots unless
this limits the fishing.

Thank you,
Ray  :-)
