I fished the Yakima from 11:30-3:00 today and did pretty well in the afternoon from 12:30-2:30. I did some nymphing early and hooked one decent fish which I lost, moved to a new spot and found fish on the top. There was a hatch of very small BWOs going on in the lower canyon that was sporadic but was bringing some nice fish up to the surface. I would walk a section, find a riser and fish for him until I hooked him or spooked him. Ended up hooking about 8, landing 6, 10-16" all on #22 BWO Comparduns except the first fish who took a #22 Adams. That is about as much fun as you can have on a March day.
The river is running up quite a bit higher than my last trip, flows were 2200 cfs at Umtanum compared to 850 on my last trip. The water is cold too, was about 40 at noon, I didn't check it later. The fish were close to shore in knee deep water for the most part. Tim
