Rowley's raccoon is a variation of Lasha's raccoon. Both of which are similar a Lady McConnel w/out the hackle and ostritch herl for gills at the bend, just before the tail. ----- Original Message ----- From: Jim Speaker Sent: Wednesday, March 27, 2002 3:00 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: Raccoon fly I think y'all are talking about the Lasha Raccoon. Here's a copy of my original post, where I noted my tweaked version of the raccoon. The original fly uses a grizzly hackle tip for a tail, I just like poly yarn better and it seems to work great...
hook: tmc 101 (#14 - 24) tail: white poly yarn shellback: light elkhair tied in by tips rear hackle: couple wraps of grizzly rib: silver wire body: fine black dub thorax: fine peacock herl
I'm actually experimenting more with this pattern, attempting to come up with an "improved raccoon" pattern... mainly trying to get it to ride more like the naturals as they arch their wings up out of the water and try to get their butts out of the shucks. I'll post my results if any of my experiments appear to be more successful than the original.

Interesting how names for things (blueback, cutthroat, smelt, euchelon, etc.) don't always mean the same thing. Morris does mention something about chir. emegergers in his article.
So what is the pattern we're REALLY looking for?
