About thirty years ago the old Department of Game (good outfit before it was melded into the Department of Fisheries, then WDFW) asked for an additional 50-cents per license to acquire land for hunting leases/purchases and fishing access. The people agreed. Over the next several years we began to realize the fruits of our investment which is why we have access, boat launches, etc., today (there is still a lot of property being held that isn't being used as yet). The problem arose when everyone saw the new DOG access areas as "public land" and began camping, dumping garbage, maximizing the chemical toilets -- and whatever -- all over the place. Maintenance costs went through the rood, hence the conservation license. At first it didn't require a tag. Now it does. It is a good fee and we need it. As for anyone noticing your stickers and possibly breaking into your car -- that's another issue.
Les Johnson PS: Eventually the real estate lobbyists bonked the Department of Game land acquisitions. We should be acquiring land again in my opinion. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tom Williams" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Saturday, April 20, 2002 4:42 AM Subject: RE: Time for a New Fishing License! > Dave, > > I am with you on this one.
