Lenice
is open thru November 30. So, yes, Friday/Saturday are the final
days.
I'd
recommend a small olive leech, like a Hale-Bopp or a Kaufman's MiniLeech, on an
intermediate line since most of Lenice is quite shallow.
I think I heard that Avid Angler sells the Hale-Bopp - it's just
a sparse angora leech with a red thread head on a stimulator-style
hook. I was fishing something similar last time on a #14 stimi-style hook
and the fish seemed to like it just fine.
Trolling is great - do so quite slowly - and encourage your friend
to give the leech small, regular twitches with the rodtip while
trolling. Also, significant pauses, a couple seconds long, seem to
draw strikes as well. This might be tough for a new flyfisher, but tossing
the leech right up near the reeds and slowly stripping it back is excellent - a
lot of nice fish feed right up against the reeds in the
shallows.
I like
a number of areas in the lake, but particularly like the reed lines in and
around the islands, the relatively deep slot behind the islands, and the
shoreline to the east of the launch. If you fish past dark, switch to a
bigger leech and a faster troll and bigger rod tip twitches. I like a #4
BH Bunny Leech with a couple strands of red crystal flash on each
side.
There's what works for me this time of year... I'm sure there's a
bazillion other flies, styles, etc, for hooking up at
Lenice.
Let us
all know how it goes - can't wait for the report.
Tight
lines and Happy Thanksgiving.
