As one of the few people who have waded Rocky Ford I think I can shed some
light on that one. The bottom composition of Rocky Ford is very soft and
wading would only serve to destroy the bottom and the vegetation and kill
the habitat that makes this place such a big fish grower. The sediment
lifted off the bottom would kill the visibility and cover the plants even
more than it already does. As to why I waded Rocky Ford: I helped land a
trout that was around 34 inches long (the tape measure only went to 28) and
had been taken on the standard 7x tippet. My friend let the fish go to
soon. When it was about five feet from the bank it rolled belly up.
Thankfully it stopped next to a large rock that I was able to stand on.
Using his rod and reel I was able to turn it over and give it a little more
time to recover.
