For the last four years, I have traveled to Calgary to fish the Bow River. I really love that river because the fish are quite large and I never cease to learn new stuff on the Bow. However, next summer I was thinking of making a couple of trips to B.C.--one in June and another in July or August.
For the first trip, I thought that I would hit the Kamloops region. But, I have no idea how to decide where. Certainly, i will visit a fly shop upon my arrival wherever I go. For the second trip, probably about 2 weeks in duration, I was thinking of Anahim Lake, the Cassiar Highway, or maybe even Alaska. I'm looking for lakes with big rainbows and good camping. I am would consider getting a float plane to fly me in to a remote lake, leave me for a few day, and pick me up later. However, I have heard that a float plane is really not necessary. I wouldn't rule out hiring a guide for one day, but i'm pretty much an independent and economically restricted guy. I would welcome any suggestions that any of you would be willing to give. Where would you go for trophy rainbows and some degree of solitude? James
