Before a baetis hatch try a 16 silver lightning bug point with an 18 olive soft hackle dropper.  Same works after the hatch, though I tend to do the big bug/little bug thing later in the day... #6 tungsten hares ear and an 18 natural hares ear.  I fish a good number of other nymphs there but those are my most frequent combos.

Unless there's a decent hatch I normally fish nymphs.  Sometimes I'll even strip sculpins along the bottom...  I like fishing #22-24 midges in the Winter on creeks but for some reason it's nothing but frustration for me on the Yak.

I'm thinking of hitting it again soon.  Anybody know how the October Caddis are holding up?  Kinda in the mood for throwing big orange stimulators myself...

Good luck!
Jim

I have a few question for the Canyon regulars.  When the baetis hatch and
associated rise stops, at whatever time in the early afternoon that might be,
what do you switch to?  Also, will the recent cold spell shut things down for the
season or is it possible that there might still be some dry fly action if the
weather warms later in the week?  Last, are there other sections of the river
worth exploring this time of year?

Thanks for any insights.
