I realize that this discussion is getting a bit long in the tooth so to
contribute to that problem....

I think that the point Paul makes still results in crossing the line. If
someone asks about certain products and I chime in that I just happen to
sell them then I have crossed that commercial line. It's fair to point them
to someone else with whom you are not associated commercially.

We seem to return to this topic on a regular basis. There have been
examples in the past where people wandered over the line without comment.
I'm fairly certain that if it happened this time the list would not have
gone straight in the toilet. I also don't mind someone reminding us of one
of our most basic rules. I think that what really got things stirred up
this time is Leland's elevated status on this list. I'm sure that he had no
intention of offending anyone and that very few were really hurt. The
bottom line is that we have what to me is a clearly defined rule that we
need to enforce to maintain the quality of this list.

Onward,

Keith

Subject: Re: Commercial posts (was RE: Steelheading, where to start ...)

I've been wondering about some of this. I organize classes for my FFF club
and would like to post notices here but am reluctant to do so. I would
however feel free to do so in response to a question about learning things
offered in one of our classes (as Leland did)

Have fun
Paul
