So I'm curious how many different types of casts people know and which one's do they use on the river a lot and which ones do they rarely use. This is geared towards trout fishing.
I thin one of the casts that has helped me elimanate lots of false casting, extraneous knots, and catching lies on the backcast is the water haul. I may be defining the water haul incorrectly but here's what I do, I let my rig drift to the end of the line letting it create tension and straighten out behind me, I drop the tip of the rod to the water behind me, and then in a slow to fast movement, I flick my line and rig back out into the stream. This works great when you've got zero room behind you, and your back handed rollcast is lacking. The other cast I use is a slackline cast when dry fly fishing in pocket water or across varying speeds of current ... I use my tip to put s's in instead of jerking back on the line like doug swisher teaches (any opinions?) Mark
