Leland,
As Don probably told you, I took a 2hr casting lesson with him and it was a big help. What I found especially useful was improving my ability to diagnose what went wrong when my cast fell apart. The part that's hard to practice for is the frantic period when a permit is cruising around the boat and the wind is blowing 20MPH. In one of my more memorable moments, I was frantically trying to clear my line for a cast and ended up stepping off the bow of the boat into mid thigh deep water. The permit was only about 30 feet away, but to my amazement it hadn't spooked. I immediately began to cast to it and heard my none too happy Mayan guide yelling at me (as he often did). He was so persistent I finally paid attention. He was trying to tell me I had the flyline around my chest. It's really hard to be calm and cool when you are in close quarters with a permit! By the way, the permit saw the fly and chased it, rejecting it at the last second.
